16:00

16:00 - 0km
Head home, change into bike kit, pack food into pockets and on bike, say bye to Ben, Erika, and Elsa and hit the road headed from Wānaka to Christchurch. Leaving town the weather is moody and I can see the rain coming in that I am trying to avoid.

17:00 - 30km
Bike out of town through Jolly Road/Deep Creeks gravel sections, say hi to lady walking her dog on the road, she mentions she never sees people out here at this time. Continue on and have a phone call from my anaesthetist for a hernia repair operation coming up on Tuesday (currently Friday).

18:00 - 50km
The sun is going down and I am heading into Lindis region, the wind is right (none at all) and it is not too cold, have settled into a comfy state on the bike and feeling great.

19:00 - 70km
Still heading up the Lindis, it is dark, Lezyne lights on. I reach the top of the highest point of this ride, stop for snacks, and head down to Omarama.

20:00 - 110km
Ride into Omarama and stop at the local pub for a coca-cola, there is two stag dosand one hens do, all cross dressed, I get stared down as I clop in, drink up, and leave. The hens do soon passes in a van and I see a few heads out the window hollaing.

21:00 - 130km
Long flat roads to Twizel.

22:00 - 160km
Past Twizel and on towards Lake Pukaki.

 23:00 - 180km
Past Lake Pukaki and onto the Alps to Ocean trail. I stop along the canals for some boiled potatoes and dried mango, carry on along with a stormy night brewing above me, the wind gets hectic.

Saturday - In Unfamiliarity

00:00 - 210km
Hectic headwind along the canals all the way to Lake Tekapo, I stop in to see Don and have three cups of tea and a cookie then leave to avoid rain, and make my way over Burkes pass.

01:00 - 220km
Over Burkes pass and have seen few streaks of lightning, and a few rabbits, barely any cars have passed me the past five hours. Loving this, feeling good after teas with Don, and the wind has turned.

02:00 - 240km
All downhill headed into fairly, unfortunately the pie bakery is closed.

03:00 - 265km
Headed between Fairlie and Geraldine, my suspected crux of the trip. All going smooth though.

04:00 - 290km
Into Geraldine starting to feel sleepy and my brain is making after images at this point.. there is always two of something. Gnarly headwind inserts itself here.

05:00 - 310km
Long flat straights, wind is too windy for this time of day.

06:00 - 330km
Headwind is persistent, not far from Mayfield though, I stop for a road side nap, 10mins later up and feeling like a full nights sleep has been achieved.

07:00 - 350km
Through Mayfield and into Stavely to see my wife Polly, and the In-laws Rob and Jane, very happy to finally have a coffee and a few more cups of tea, and breakfast. Good catch up before pressing on, feeling great at this point.

08:00 - 360km
Quick stop at neighbours down the road (forgot to fill my bottles up (they also invite me in for breakie after letting it slip what I was up to (Already full from the Withers though))) the wind has turned and is now making this last part of the ride amazing. Past Mt Hutt and through the Rakaia.

09:00 - 390km
On the straights to Christchurch with a raging tailwind. primo.

10:00 - 420km
Still on the straights.. Wind cant make its mind up.

11:00 - 450km
Stillll on the straights, wind kinda sucks, spirits still high. Stop at my first 4 square of the trip at West Milton for a Monster.

12:00 - 457km
Arrive in Christchurch and straight to Empire chicken for a burger/beer with Andrew, Alex, and Violet Then bike to CBD and start heading out of town.

13:00
Polly comes to collect me, but flats out, some Jehovahs witnesses help her change the wheel (car wheel) and Andrew gave me a lift outta town, I stop my ride here finally.

14:00
Polly takes me home to Stavely.

15:00
Date day with Polly, pie stop on way home.

16:00
Arrive home and eat, then nap.
